A big thanks to Mrs. Henry, Mrs. Mance and our NJHS kids for organizing our kickball tournament to benefit our high school students with medical needs. Thanks to all the staff and students who participated. And the teachers won 6-4!
What an amazing opportunity to see and congratulate the Class of 2018! Thank you, Mrs. Rogge and Mr. Sutherland, for such an amazing idea and the creation of a new tradition.

Congratulations to the winners of the American Legion's "Americanism Essay Contest."
First Place winners were Kaia Abramski and Hailey Huber each receiving $35.
Four other students received Honorable Mention Certificates.

The 2017 YIMS 12th Annual Turkey Trot was once again a huge success collecting $7,000. The Turkey Trot proceeds benefit the Westmoreland County Food Bank’s Turkey Cup Challenge initiative where YIMS won second place in the county. This year was exceptionally special because we reached $102,855.07 in total giving surpassing the one-hundred-thousand-dollar mark!!
A big congrats to Mrs. Pazer and our gifted kids. They won first play in a regional math competition at Penn State New Kensington. They finished first out of 10 schools!

Mrs. Knepp was selected as a 2017 McDonald’s MAC (Make Activities Count) grant winner! Once materials are received, students in Mrs. Knepp’s science and math classes will be participating in an escape room right in the classroom. They will have to solve math problems and answer science questions in 60 minutes or less in order to “escape”! Students will work together in teams of 4 or 5 in order to escape in the required amount of time. A big thank you to McDonalds for continuing to support education by making these grants available to teachers each year!
5th graders come together to become the next great Yough class!
The "Pumpkin Drop" was held on October 27, 2017 at West Virginia University. There were 400 teams that participated and only 150 pumpkins that survived. Out of those 150 that survived, one of our teams placed 2nd overall, landing 2 feet 9 inches from the target.
