Math I and II
Math 5 prepares students for the requirements of the PA Common Core Standards in Mathematics using the textbook Go Math, through their ability to understand, retain, and apply eligible content over the course of the year. Cumulative skills attained through this course will include but are not limited to problem-solving, “real world” application, and critical thinking skills. The units of study covered for the year-
1) Numbers and Operations - Base 10 focuses on addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole numbers and decimals using groups of ten and place value.
2) Numbers and Operations - Fractions focuses on adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions, improper fractions, and mixed numbers.
3) Operations and Algebraic Thinking focuses on interpreting and evaluating expressions, equations, and inequalities using the order of operations.
4) Measurement, Data, and Probability focus on converting measurements within a given measurement system, represent and interpret data, and solve problems involving volume.
5) Geometry focuses on categorizing two-dimensional shapes based on their properties and plotting points on a coordinate grid.
Science
This year in science we will explore Life Science and Earth/Space. Some of the lessons we will be investigating through experiments. I might need to ask if parents can send in some of the supplies for the labs.
Upcoming Math Tests
Students will take a pretest before every chapter to see what they know. All quizzes and Chapter Tests will be posted in Google Classroom.
Upcoming Science Tests and Projects
All tests and projects will be posted on Google Classroom.
